Temecula is well known for its championship golf courses, a climate perfect for serene and beautiful hot-air ballooning adventures, and award-winning wineries nestled in 3,000 acres of picturesque wine country, but that's just the beginning. Great weather and fresh air will encourage you to take the family for a hike on the Santa Rosa Plateau Wildlife Preserve, or delight in a day of boating and fishing at Lake Skinner, the site of the annual Balloon & Wine Festival, or nearby Diamond Valley Lake.
Just south of Temecula, the Pechanga Tribe of American Indians operates the Pechanga Resort and Entertainment Center where visitors can enjoy gaming, boxing, or concerts.

During the mid-1800's, the Butterfield Overland Mail company contracted with the federal government to deliver mail and goods. Temecula was one of the stops along the Butterfield Stage route which followed the Southern Emigrant Trail. Having a designated Post Office implies a certain permanency and importance to the area served and in 1859 Temecula's postal designation marked it as a verdant and pleasant valley that would, in time, trace significant history and growth. The railroad was late in coming to Temecula. In the 1880s, Temecula was still a quiet village of farmers and ranchers. Louis Wolf ran a successful store at the bank of the Temecula Creek. The giant Ranchos that had been deeded by the former Mexican government had been divided, sold, and divided again. Land speculators seeking to certify their purchases had to make the trek to the count seat in the city of San Diego, which required, at a minimum, a two-day journey by horseback or wagon. Old Town Temecula
